My Grandfather Patrick was born in Aillemore and my Grandmother Ann in Kilgeever. Both worked in the mills their entire life.
My grandmother's dream was to one day come back to Ireland, but that was never realized. Every year, however, she went to the ocean which was about an hours drive from home to put her feet in the water. She said that it was the same ocean she knew as a girl in Ireland and that was enough to keep her connected.
Amazing that so many of these brave young people left their homes to never see family in Ireland again.
