Our Irish Women Launch in Louisburgh

Sincere thanks to all who came to the Launch of “Our Irish Women” Exhibition in Louisburgh April on 12th 2019. Great positive & inspiring words about the exhibition and wonderful stories retold of Louisburghs’ own Sr. Hilary Lyons as she is honoured as a participant in the exhibition. The Exhibition will remain in Louisburgh until April 26th 2019 in five venues, creating an Exhibition Trail.

None of this could be possible without the co-operation of Louisburgh 74 Cafe, Solas Craft shop, Books@one, GrainneUaile Heritage Centre & Tia Cafe. We are so thankful to the National Museum of Country Life for taking this Exhibition on tour to local communities to celebrate women whose stories are lesser known. It is creating an awareness of the wonderful work undertaken by the iCAN network.

  • Hi Nancy, Thank you so much for getting in touch. Congratulations! What a wonderful achievement for you to have your book published. We will look for this book to share with the community. It is so beautiful to hear you call Sr Hilary “Mama, Docta Hilary”, I am sure she was well liked. We were blessed to have had her exchange many interesting conversations on a whole range of topics over the years. She was truly a kind, witty and incredible woman. We look forward to reading your book.

  • I was so pleased to find these pages about Sister Hilary Lyons. I had the privilege of working with her in Sierra Leone, West Africa for five years (1978-84). She was an incredible mentor who inspired all who knew her. Over the years, I stayed in touch with “Mama, Docta Hilary” as they called her in the villages. I last visited her in the fall of 2019. Sister Hilary read a very early draft of my memoir (Not One, Not Even One: A Memoir of Life-altering Experiences in Sierra Leone, West Africa), which has now been published. She features in some of the public health stories I share in the memoir. Details regarding the book and where it can be purchased can be found here: http://www.nancyedwards.ca. Please consider recommending the memoir for purchase for your local public library.
