Easter 1916 Centenary Celebrations Begin

Waiting patiently…….

The fifth and sixth class in Killeen National School are busy planning a fantastic commemoration project to celebrate the Easter 1916 Rising. To kick start their project they recently had a visit from the Irish Defence Forces to present their school with their very own copy of the Irish Proclamation and an Irish Tri-colour flag.

It was very exciting to learn more information about the Irish flag and a brief history of the Rising from Sergeant Wayne Fitzgerald and Private Robert O’Flaherty. Both men were very impressed with the level of knowledge and enthusiasm from all the children in Killeen NS.

The National Anthem played beautifully by Connie, Sarah, Lizzy, Niamh & Rachel

The presentation is part of a Nationwide initiative in which the Defence Forces aim to deliver a handmade Tri-colour flag and a copy of the Proclamation to over 3,000 national schools across Ireland.

More photographs and hard work coming here in the following months from 5th & 6th classes in Killeen NS. We wish them the best of luck as they undertake a really special project to celebrate the Centenary of Easter 1916 Rising.
